“New MAHA Report Reveals Root Causes of America’s Childhood Health Crisis”
The Presidential Commission to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) has released a comprehensive assessment outlining the major drivers of the nation’s escalating childhood chronic disease crisis. The report, issued just 98 days after President Trump’s Executive Order establishing the commission, represents a major step in the administration’s public health agenda.
The “Make Our Children Healthy Again Assessment” identifies five core contributors to the ongoing health decline among U.S. children: poor diet, environmental toxins, insufficient physical activity, chronic stress, and overmedicalization. The document offers a data-driven foundation for future policy development and marks a concerted push to address childhood disease at its source rather than through symptomatic management.
“We will end the childhood chronic disease crisis by attacking its root causes head-on—not just managing its symptoms,” said U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “We will follow the truth wherever it leads, uphold rigorous science, and drive bold policies that put the health, development, and future of every child first.”
The report highlights sobering national health statistics:

Over 20% of children over the age of 6 are obese—a 270% increase since the 1970s.

More than 25% of teens exhibit signs of pre-diabetes, doubling over two decades.

Childhood cancer rates have increased nearly 40% since 1975.

Autism now affects 1 in 31 children by age 8.

Teenage depression and suicide ideation are sharply rising, with 1 in 4 teen girls reporting a major depressive episode in 2022.

Childhood food allergies have surged 88% from 1997 to 2018.
The Commission’s findings underscore a broader, systemic issue affecting America’s youth and foreshadow significant policy action. U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins emphasized agriculture’s role in addressing the crisis: “We must do more to improve the health outcomes of our kids and families, and President Trump knows agriculture is at the heart of the solution… We are working to make sure our kids and families are consuming the healthiest food we produce.”
Environmental priorities were also a focal point. “America’s childhood chronic disease crisis will be solved through innovation,” said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. “This report shows America will continue to be the energy, industrial, and agricultural power of the world—and we can continue this while ensuring we have the healthiest children.”
In the next 82 days, the MAHA Commission is expected to deliver the Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy, leveraging the report’s findings. Federal agencies including the NIH, FDA, and CMS will mobilize to close research gaps, expand oversight of substances classified as “Generally Recognized As Safe” (GRAS), and apply advanced technologies such as AI to monitor health trends in real time.
These coordinated efforts aim not only to reverse troubling health trajectories but also to restore scientific integrity, strengthen regulatory oversight, and reclaim the physical and mental well-being of the next generation.
