“How Not to Run Against VP Harris”
Will Republicans make the same mistakes they always have? Dr Wolf explains the minefields involved in running against the first biracial female VP and shows how personal attacks that may play well with the “base”, will backfire with a swing audience (and cede the high ground). Winning, she argues, means: Border border border; and linking the border issues to crimes against children and women. #KamalasVictims is a winning hashtag.

Just have to comment that I think President Trump’s choosing JD Vance for a running mate was A HUGE mistake! Vance is ignorant, sexist, and insulting to women. The “childless cat lady” remark was so inappropriate. And he’s too stupid, politically, to even apologize. I’ve heard that Vance has doubled down on it. Truly, I hate the thought of voting for a ballot with his name on it! He brings nothing but problems for the Trump campaign. And I know I”m not the only Trump supporter who feels this way. Also a very politically astute close friend knows of a deep dive done on Vance, and she said he is a FRAUD. No surprise there. He’s obviously, to me, an opportunist, and Trump’s sons who promoted Vance as VP pick are so gullible. BIG mistake for the ticket. I needed to vent about this. The outcome of the presidential race is absolutely critical to the survival of our demoncratic republic, our beloved America!
Oh- very important information about Vance that I forgot to add: I saw a video of interview of Vance, and he told the reporter that Harris is against the Child Tax Credit. That’s false! In fact, according to a Forbes article, Harris is for EXPANSION of the Child Tax Credit. Vance is such a loser, and maybe a liar to boot. If so, so stupid to lie as your fall-back position. Sorry, but I am so upset about this.

Gee, I wonder if Christie is as offended as you?
I believe Vance was taking a measured risk:
tradeoff votes from “childless cat lady” types(includes my liberal daughter!) with those who have potential(!) to actually VOTE for conservative candidates.
Yes, it panders to SURE-votes and denigrates nearly all progressives but, at this point, little is lost.
Here is the deal, big picture for you:
— NO candidate(s) will be perfect.
— Surely, Trump himself is NOT.
— Forever in the US one has been forced to choose the best of imperfect people to vote; hold your nose.
— The option is SO much worse.
I believe the opposite is true- this is not a “measured response.” If he is that inept, he needs to withdraw for the sake of the country. Lying is what Biden has done his whole career. “Puffing” is what Trump does on occasion, like saying, ” My car is faster than any other.” or “Trump Towers is the most beautiful building in New York.” But defending your position by lying about the opponent in a material way is a losing proposition and a sign of weakness, poor character . . .etc.” Running against a liar is a great advantage in such a well-publicized election.
Naomi,
I agree entirely with what you have suggested about how to position oneself when campaigning. It’s simple and brilliant…thus if people cannot curb their urge to trash their opponent within certain topics, shame on them. I am hopeful that JD Vance will wise up, but I also think (I read his book) that since he grew up in the utmost of dysfunctional families, he must have many demons propelling him. And that sadly perhaps he lives his life according to, “The best defense is an offense”.
At any rate, I am going to try to incorporate your ideas in dealing with my two grown and ultra-liberal daughters, who mutually despise DJT, (despite Biden’s hair-sniffing and showering with his 10 yr old dtr) and refuse to hear a good word about RFK. Sigh.
Keep on with your beautiful writing and keeping us in the know. Thank you and your equally astute, and charming, Brian.
