“Trump Admin Moves to Cut $100M in Federal Contracts with Harvard”
The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it is initiating steps to cancel all remaining federal government contracts with Harvard University, citing concerns over alleged racial discrimination and compliance with federal law.
The action, first reported by The New York Times, was outlined in a letter from the General Services Administration (GSA) to top procurement officials across federal agencies. The letter urges agencies to review existing agreements with Harvard and take steps toward termination.
According to CNBC, the contracts in question are reportedly worth approximately $100 million.
The GSA’s letter accuses Harvard of continuing to “engage in race discrimination” in its admissions process and other campus programs. It also references broader concerns, including the university’s handling of antisemitism on campus and its implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies—areas the administration argues may conflict with federal standards.
“As you know, being a counterparty with the federal government comes with the deep responsibility and commitment to abide by all federal laws and ensure the safeguarding of taxpayer money,” the letter states.
This latest move follows a series of escalations between the Trump administration and Harvard. The university has faced scrutiny from lawmakers and federal agencies over its campus policies and student conduct, particularly in the wake of protests and rising concerns over discrimination. Harvard, in response, has mounted legal challenges defending its institutional policies and autonomy.
