“The Validity of Trans Identities”
Dear Daily Clout,
I have the deepest respect for your team of warriors for truth and justice – please continue to be the warriors for truth and justice and goodness that you are.
The impetus for my writing this letter to the editor is a series of tweets on X I happened to see on Dr. Wolf’s feed recently relating to transgender people. Some of what Dr. Wolf said or retweeted in apparent support of what I must respectively say is insensitive to transgender people and seems to reflect a lack of understanding of who we are each as individuals individually created by our Maker. Some of the things being said there and many other places have the potential to make life very difficult for trans people. I humbly hope that what I write here will deepen my reader’s understanding and touch each of your hearts in beneficial ways.
One of the things Dr. Wolf said on X is “If gender is indeed a construct, what is wrong with trans women playing with men?” Really? Can you imagine the havoc and hardship and humiliation that a trans person would feel participating in society in the opposite gender of who they truly are? I can see myself going to the local fun run for charity and declaring that I want to participate as a male. What should I have to do to convince them that I have the right to compete as a man? And what effect will that have on me – what will be the response towards me of people who believe that transgender people are all mentally ill and represent a danger to the moral fabric of our society? There are a growing number of such people (especially those who identify as conservatives, but some liberal identifying feminists and others as well) who see trans women and men as the vanguards of wokeness, attackers on gender, and prone to all kinds of depravity and perversion, including pedophilia and other evils. Now in such a world that they desire to create, I would be put in the position of having to constantly deny and “prove” to others that I am none of these things, which of course I am not. In fact, I probably agree with most of these attackers to a large degree on most of these issues, certainly I am not aligned in any way with vacuous amoral woke ideology and the massive attacks on individual rights and bodily autonomy. But once many caught up in the ideological view that “transgenders” (their word) are the purveyors of all kinds of evil and depravity find out my background most of them would not allow me to work on their team or participate as an equal in their circles. This would happen to me because so many are indoctrinated to believe with absolute conviction things about me that are not remotely true. I would be asked by many to go join a team that I have much less in common with, a woke globalist brainwashed team that quickly would also ostracize me once they find out more about my set of personal beliefs.
It’s wrong to associate the “gender is a construct” view of human beings with trans people in general and not with cis people in general, which appears to me (correct me if I am wrong) an assumption of the tweet mentioned above. I have nothing to do with this kind of viewpoint myself. I certainly don’t identify with the “we need to reject the binary” rhetoric that I have heard from some. Most people easily fall into the two sexes that are predominant biologically but it is not true that this is the biology of each and every individual. My friend who I will call Bristal is one of many that does not. She distinctly had throughout her development a mix of female and male sexual characteristics (in her case there is a genetic condition she has that has been identified as responsible for this). But she had known she was a girl for as long as she could remember. Society and her parents decided otherwise. When she tried to express herself as a girl, she experienced all kinds of abuse (emotional and physical) from her father. There are also some people who are intersex like her have more of a yin and yang in their gender identity and may vacillate between the two. While in today’s society, it might seem like nonbinary identity is a totally ideological thing, I can assure you there are individuals for whom it has an obvious biological basis. Please do not assume that an individual who has this kind of identity is crazy and brainwashed.
Also, in the same tweet, Dr. Wolf retweeted Riley Gaines who repeatedly misgenders Tate Trageset, the teenage girl she is demanding go compete with boys. I don’t know much of anything at this point about Tate’s story, but it doesn’t appear that she is really a guy just pretending to be a girl so she can beat other girls and then goes back to being a boy after the competition. I hope that you can see how wrong misgendering is for someone who deeply and persistently identifies as a gender that does not correspond with what they were identified as at birth. For those who object to that characterization, there are people like my friend Bristal who clearly could have been assigned either gender at birth depending on the subjective judgment of the attending physician. Interestingly surgery has historically been conducted on such infants to conform with whatever gender the physician chooses for her/ his patient. And I will tell you that it is not true that all trans women now and forever more have a biological advantage over cis women. My friend Sheryl (not her real name) transitioned decades ago, and already had physiology and aspects of her development that were more similar to those associated with a large majority of females. She has competed as an amateur for decades in sports as a woman and she does not fit the stereotypes of Riley Gaines and others assign to all transwomen. Now 80 years old and still competing in sports from time to time, must we demand that Sheryl from now to the end of her life compete as a man? I don’t think there is anything good that can come from that. Yet legislation to force Sheryl and others to identify themselves as the opposite gender is being considered in many states.
Dr. Wolf, I am afraid I must gently pass on vigorous disagreement regarding the statements made in another retweet of yours: That from freedomfirst who said: “Trans people can create their own leagues…. While we are adding [sic] it, add a separate bathroom for trans people in public places. Solutions!” Seriously? Are these supposed to be separate but equal measures? Have we learned anything about the harm that can emanate from this kind of separation and othering of specific groups of people in our society? My readers, if it gets to this point for me (and so many others) it would completely disrupt my life and force me into a ghetto-like existence. I wouldn’t be able to participate in so much of life with girlfriends, trips to the spa and so many other things would be outlawed for me. Pointless walls of separation would be raised to keep me from participating as a woman in society. If one wants to make it much more difficult for trans people like me to live happy fulfilled lives and with deep and meaningful relationships with others, these kinds of measures put society on that road. If we continue on this path, I shudder to think what life will be like for me and so many others in the years to come.
I hope my readers will be able to overcome any preconceptions they have and take my words to heart. I feel like these days I am fighting a losing battle on all sides regarding my right to go on living my life normally and freely as I have for so many years. For people such as myself, there are movements gathering steam like runaway freight trains to attack my morality, freedom, and sometimes even my right to exist on this earth coming from conservatives and liberals alike. At least one of these trains is threatening to separate me from female and male relationships by denying me the right to live life as my true, natural self. Let him or her who has ears to hear reflect deeply on these issues I have raised and do some soul-searching if needed.
Humbly yours,
