“Israel Hits Tehran; Trump Warns of “More Brutal” Attacks”
President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a forceful public message to Iran via Truth Social, warning that Israel’s next round of military action could be “even more brutal” unless Tehran agrees to halt its nuclear activities and return to negotiations.
“There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter… come to an end,” Trump wrote. “Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death, no more destruction—JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
Trump’s remarks followed a sweeping Israeli military strike on Tehran early Friday, which reportedly targeted over 100 sites, including critical infrastructure and military compounds. Among those killed in the initial wave were senior Iranian military officials, including IRGC Commander-in-Chief General Hossein Salami and Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, who were reportedly convening in an underground bunker at the time.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the strikes included an assault on the Natanz nuclear facility, a key site in Iran’s uranium enrichment program. Images circulating from Tehran show extensive damage to both government and civilian infrastructure, as emergency responders comb through the rubble.
The strikes were met with a swift response from Iran, which launched more than 100 drones toward Israeli territory in retaliation. Israeli defense systems reportedly intercepted the barrage, and no major damage or casualties have been reported from the counterattack.
Despite the rising hostilities, U.S. and Iranian negotiators are still scheduled to meet this weekend in Muscat, Oman, for the latest round of nuclear talks. The diplomatic process, however, remains fragile. At issue is whether Iran will be permitted to enrich uranium for civilian purposes—a point of longstanding contention between the two nations.
Prior to the attack, Trump had cautioned Israel against preemptive strikes, noting that it “might help” or “might blow” the talks. Ultimately, Israeli forces moved ahead with what Netanyahu described as a “necessary preemptive operation.”
In his statement, Trump emphasized U.S. military strength and reiterated America’s support for Israel’s right to self-defense. “The United States makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the world, BY FAR, and Israel has a lot of it—with much more to come,” he said. “Certain Iranian hardliners spoke bravely, but they didn’t know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse.”
Following the strikes, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement distancing the U.S. from direct involvement, affirming that the United States had no part in Israel’s actions and urging Iran not to retaliate against U.S. personnel or assets in the region. In anticipation of escalations, non-essential U.S. embassy staff in Iraq were evacuated earlier in the week.
As tensions soar, questions remain about the viability of the upcoming nuclear talks and whether diplomatic efforts can withstand the intensifying cycle of military confrontation.
