Tulsi Gabbard Revokes Security Clearances for 37 Intelligence Officials

August 19, 2025 • by DailyClout

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced Tuesday that her office has revoked the security clearances of 37 current and former intelligence officials, marking one of the most sweeping accountability actions in recent memory.

In a statement on X, Gabbard said the move followed direction from President Donald Trump and targeted those who “abused the public trust by politicizing and manipulating intelligence, leaking classified information without authorization, and/or committing egregious violations of tradecraft standards.”

She emphasized that “being entrusted with a security clearance is a privilege, not a right” and argued that those who undermine the Constitution or exploit intelligence for political ends must face consequences.

Restoring Accountability in the Intelligence Community

Gabbard, a former Hawaii congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate, assumed the DNI role earlier this year and pledged to rebuild public trust in the intelligence community. Since taking office, she has stressed accountability, transparency, and adherence to constitutional principles.

Her announcement represents the first large-scale clearance revocation under her tenure and comes at a time when Washington is still divided over the intelligence community’s role in the 2016 election and its aftermath.

The Justice Department’s inspector general previously flagged misconduct in FBI surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser, while the Mueller investigation found no evidence of criminal conspiracy between Trump and Russia. Critics argue that senior intelligence figures politicized those investigations, while defenders insist they acted in good faith to protect national security.

Names Withheld, Future Reviews Possible

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not release the names of the 37 officials affected or clarify how many still hold active government positions. The White House has not yet commented beyond acknowledging Trump’s directive.

It also remains unclear whether more reviews are underway. Still, the move underscores a new approach under Gabbard—one that prioritizes clearing out officials accused of bias or misconduct in favor of restoring focus to core national security duties.
