“World Economic Forum launches probe into founder Klaus Schwab”
The World Economic Forum (WEF) announced on Tuesday that it has initiated an internal investigation into its founder and former chairman, Klaus Schwab, following the receipt of a whistleblower letter alleging misconduct. The announcement came one day after Schwab, 87, announced his immediate resignation as chairman without providing a reason.
According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the investigation, the anonymous letter sent to the WEF board raised concerns regarding governance practices and workplace culture, including claims that members of the Schwab family inappropriately used forum resources for personal matters. The WEF confirmed receipt of the allegations and stated in an email to Reuters that while it considers the claims serious, they remain unsubstantiated, and the forum will refrain from further comment until the investigation is complete.
A spokesperson for the Schwab family denied all allegations outlined in the complaint and told The Wall Street Journal that Klaus Schwab intends to pursue legal action against the individual(s) responsible for the letter and others disseminating the claims. Reuters reported that it was unable to reach the Schwab family for additional comment.
The WEF has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years, with critics from across the political spectrum describing its annual Davos summit as out of touch with everyday concerns. Past reports have also highlighted internal issues at the organization, including allegations of harassment and discrimination, which the WEF has previously denied.
