You want rogue? Here’s rogue #1. There were no “generations” before the so-called Boomers. The popular press gave populational bulge following WWII its own name – the baby boomers. The name stuck, and the same press came to call every 20-year group with its own generational name. Gen X — those born ten 20-yr generations after 1776, and so on.
But there are no Gens-this’ or Gen-thats. There’s always a continuum of ages. Babies, children, adolescents, teenagers, 20s, 30s, etc. right through to 100s. Always.
The press labeling some Gen-this and the next one Gen-that is just a way of artificially dividing the population into culturally contending sub-groups.
Cultural drift does happen. But every 20-year grouping has every kind of individual in it. In fact, given the continuum of years, there is no fixed start for any 20-year ‘generational’ period. The whole Gen-thing is made up.
So, this plays into your desire to not limit yourself to one Gen-blah, Kate. There is no Gen-Z or Millennials, or any other Gen-rubbish. The labels are artificial constructs, that invite division and stereotyping. All across the ages is just people.
Your desire to address everyone is exactly right. Americans. American Rogue — that’s your embrace-all demographic.
Rogue #2 — not only has every people been oppressed, but there isn’t a people that has not been an oppressor.
The Holocaust: primed by 1500 years of Christian Jew-hatred — inventing blood-libels and blaming Jews for killing Jesus. Look up Father Charles Coughlin for a modern example.
The Armenians genocide of 1915: primed by 1200 years of Muslims demonizing and persecuting Christians.
None of these events had their roots in modernity. They are the culmination of millennium-long cultural trends.
Last thought here; rogue #2b: the Holocaust was not the product of a right-wing movement. Nazism is a brand of socialism. In the 1930s, it was the darling of American progressives. It got re-branded as right wing after WWII.
Rogue #3: Interview John Lott, about his book and research “More Guns Less Crime.”
It is the definitive work showing that an armed populace deters crime. Also, that gun-owners are more law-abiding than the general population.
He can be contacted through his website: https://crimeresearch.org/
Rogue #4: The history of Christianity (and Islam) is filled with the most grotesque crimes against human rights and human dignity. Wars and oppression of heretical populations — look up the Albigensian Crusade and the history of the Cathars. Christian history is rife with sectarian wars, the murder of heretics, the burning of witches, the oppression of Jews. The history of Islam is no better.
The very long history of endless religious wars, sectarian strife, and religious oppression provides zero evidence of human rights being founded in Christianity. Instead, the notion of rights emerged from the Enlightenment — when human cultural thought became infused with science and reason.
It is only from Evolutionary Biology (Darwinism to the polemically disposed) that we know all humans are siblings. The religious view is just the opposite — the saved elect and the heathen everyone else. The purified and the degraded.
And here’s rogue #4b: There is no objective morality. Religious morality is grounded in a belief in the absolute. But belief in an absolute is not proof of an absolute. Belief is belief is subjective. All morality is based in a belief and is therefore subjective.
Morality is just the behavior by which people feel virtuous in their given society.
Darwin”s development of evolutionary theory did not change anything except a comforting perspective.
One can live in the cold winds and strong currents of reality, or pull the blankets over one’s head. The choice is made by each and all.
And just to add: — our sociality — our ability to live with one another peaceably within civil laws — is a grant of 2 million years of human cultural evolution. Let’s see: that can be rogue #5. 🙂
Good luck, Kate. You’re on a good road.
