Dr. Richard Amerling and The Restoration of Medical Ethics
The Smartest Organ in the Body
Dr. Richard Amerling is a co-founder and Chief Academic Officer at The Wellness Company (TWC). Dr. Amerling studied medicine in Belgium, graduating with honors in 1981. Dr. Amerling worked for 26 years as an academic and nephrologist at Beth Israel Medical Center and began working as a professor at St. George’s University (SGU) in Granada in 2016.
Nephrology, Dr. Amerling’s area of expertise, is the science of kidney disease, and his experience includes the treatment of people who have acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and other related issues, as well as many years of clinical research and presentations. The kidney’s job is to maintain homeostasis in the body, which is the balance of what comes in and what goes out of the body. If one loses that balance, he will die. The process of balancing the intake and outtake of the body is so delicate, as Dr. Amerling stated, that it’s considered the smartest organ in the body, even more so than the brain. Additionally, the kidney filters the blood at a rate of 180 liters per day, eliminating just what the body needs to excrete into about a liter of urine.
Dr. Amerling joined Dr. Naomi Wolf of the DailyClout for a fascinating conversation about his background, area of expertise, and the establishment of TWC.

Witnessing Corruption
Dr. Amerling was considered a key opinion leader in the study of nephrology from early on in his career. The respect he gained allowed him access to the inner workings of the relationship between medicine and pharma, and the strong influence the pharmaceutical industry holds over the way medicine is practiced.
In 2016, Dr. Amerling made a significant career shift into teaching at St. George’s University. Corruption in the medical industry led Dr. Amerling to understand that the biggest impact he could have on the practice of medicine in a positive manner would be to impact the next generation of doctors in one of the largest and most influential medical schools in the world.
Like so many other independent thinkers who value freedom, Dr. Amerling’s career was turned upside down when COVID hit the world in 2020, which ultimately led to him being fired from SGU for refusing to take a COVID vaccine. Dr. Amerling’s attention has been turned towards studying corruption in medicine, and building a new future in healthcare together with his colleagues at TWC.
Vaccine Mandate at SGUÂ
In early 2021, discussion of vaccine mandates began, and Dr. Amerling grew very concerned, and knew under no uncertain terms that he would not take the COVID vaccine.
The president of SGU is a man named Dr. Richard Olds, a microbiologist. He took it upon himself personally to promote the COVID vaccine, and gave a series of presentations to the staff that was basically just “infomercials with one-sided, biased information”.
SGU implemented a COVID vaccine mandate for its staff and students in 2021, despite almost non-existent rates of COVID on the island of Granada at the time. Initially, there was a paragraph included in the official mandate that allowed for medical or religious exemptions, and Dr. Amerling submitted a medical exemption written by none other than Dr. Peter McCullough, who Dr. Amerling has known for many years.
The medical exemption was summarily rejected with no reason given. He was put on administrative leave in July 2021 for refusing to comply, at which point Dr. Amerling returned to the U.S. to work with Dr. Simone Gold and the Frontline Doctors. In January 2022, Dr. Amerling was officially terminated from SGU.
Vaccine Concerns
Dr. Amerling’s discomfort with the COVID vaccine was rooted both in principle and based on what he saw in Pfizer’s own clinical trials, which raised many unanswered questions and issues, including:
- “Fully Vaccinated”: People were only counted as vaccinated two weeks after their 2nd shot which completely distorted reports of injuries between the time of the first shot and when they were considered “fully vaccinated”
- Saline Placebo: The use of a saline placebo was problematic because the placebo group would have no reactions whatsoever, which would destroy half of the double-blindness of the study.
- Vaccine Efficacy: The vaccine efficacy formula used by Pfizer resulted in a “relative risk-reduction” equation that amplifies small benefits, while the “absolute risk-reduction” only came out to 0.7-0.8 percent, rendering the treatment “clinically meaningless”
“Anyone who could read the literature would know from the beginning that this was not going to be a blockbuster shot, and their hype was completely unjustified”
Dr. Wolf and Dr. Amerling noted that the enthusiastic claims that one would not contract COVID, be hospitalized, or die were made loudly by US government officials such as Drs. Fauci and Walensky yet were stated much less emphatically and definitively by the actual CEOs of Pfizer and Moderna.
Algorithm-Based Medicine
In the current corporate medical-pharmaceutical industrial system, when a patient shows up at his doctor’s office for a 10-15 minute time slot, the doctor will often prescribe drugs or treatment based on computer-generated algorithms that spit out which drug would be most compatible for his systems, closely tracking every pill sold.
Dr. Amerling and his colleagues are advocating for restoring humanity to the practice of medicine and giving each patient full attention to the complete picture of their overall health and lifestyle. They attempt to get patients to a healthy place with proper diet, exercise, and supplements.
The Creation of The Wellness CompanyÂ
Dr. Amerling’s goal was to push back on the pharmaceutical takeover of medicine, something that he tried to do at the university for which he was ultimately removed for his efforts. That experience led him to explore telehealth and consider setting up a telehealth clinic that would use technology to restore medicine to its origins, a relationship between the doctor and the patient.
Thanks to a like-minded donor in Canada, Dr. Amerling and Dr. Heather Gessling were able to push forward with this idea, and The Wellness Company was founded, with a few core values as a foundation:
- Restoring Ethics in Medicine
- Restoring physician/patient relationship
- Transparency in medicine
- Medical privacy
TWC is now forging ahead with innovative and flexible ways to practice medicine, including a new subscription model where the patient pays one monthly fee and has access to unlimited doctor’s visits. The doctors affiliated with TWC are being trained by Dr. Amerling and the other founders, and together they’re navigating the best way to move forward in a new frontier of the practice of medicine.

“Medical ethics”???
Wait . . . these days isn’t that pretty much an oxymoron? 😉
