Minnesota Man Charged for $45K Hit Threat Against Pam Bondi
A Minnesota man is facing federal charges after authorities say he posted a video on social media offering money for someone to kill former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
According to a federal complaint, Tyler Maxon Avalos is charged with one count of posting a threat against another person using interstate communications. A judge released him on his own recognizance on Wednesday.
The case began on October 9, when a TikTok user contacted the FBI after seeing a video that allegedly imposed a $45,000 bounty on Bondi. The tipster provided a screenshot of the post and of the user account that published it.
Court documents say the account displayed symbols commonly associated with anarchist ideology and included a link to an anarchist information page in its profile. Federal investigators traced the account back to Avalos.
The complaint also states that Avalos has a criminal history in multiple states, including prior convictions for felony stalking, felony third-degree domestic battery, and misdemeanor domestic assault.
Pam Bondi served two terms as Florida Attorney General from 2011 to 2019 and later acted as an adviser to President Donald Trump. Federal authorities did not comment on whether Bondi was given security protection in connection with the investigation.
If convicted, Avalos could face federal penalties for using online platforms to issue violent threats.
