Majority of Voters Back Trump’s National Guard Deployment to Defend ICE Facilities
A new Rasmussen Reports poll reveals that a majority of American voters support Trump’s National Guard deployment to defend ICE facilities across the country—signaling growing public frustration with judicial activism and unchecked border chaos.
According to the survey, 52 percent of likely voters approve of using the National Guard to protect ICE facilities from violent attacks and disruptions. Of those, 39 percent strongly support the Trump administration’s move. Meanwhile, 43 percent disapproved, including 33 percent who strongly opposed the measure.
The poll, conducted between October 7–9 among 1,184 likely voters with a ±3 percent margin of error, also asked about the perception of judicial overreach. When asked whether district court judges have been engaging in a “legal insurrection”—issuing rulings that are “flagrantly unlawful and unconstitutional”—a striking 56 percent agreed, while just 31 percent disagreed.
Voter Sentiment: Strong Support for Immigration Enforcement
Rasmussen further found that 53 percent of voters approve of Trump’s broader immigration enforcement policies, including efforts to locate and deport individuals in the U.S. illegally. 43 percent disapproved, indicating that despite media opposition, most Americans still back firm border control measures.
This surge of public support comes amid rising tensions over federal authority and state resistance. President Trump ordered National Guard deployments to Los Angeles, Chicago, Memphis, Washington D.C., and Portland, following a wave of attacks and riots targeting ICE and federal officers.
Judicial Resistance and “Legal Insurrection”
While Trump’s supporters see these deployments as necessary to restore order and uphold federal law, activist judges have intervened to halt them in some states.
A federal appeals court recently ruled that Trump may federalize the National Guard in Illinois but cannot deploy them within the state’s borders—illustrating the murky constitutional battle between state sovereignty and federal authority. Earlier this month, another federal judge blocked the interstate deployment of National Guard troops to Oregon, undermining the administration’s effort to secure federal property from mob violence.
Why It Matters
The results of this poll reflect a growing divide between the public’s desire for order and judicial obstructionism that many Americans see as politically motivated. While mainstream media narratives often portray Trump’s measures as “authoritarian,” most voters appear to view them as necessary steps to protect law enforcement and national security in a time of escalating unrest.
If the polling trend continues, the “law and order” message could once again become a decisive force heading into 2025 — with Trump’s National Guard strategy resonating far beyond partisan lines.
