The man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident. Authorities confirmed Robinson’s arrest late Thursday night after an intensive two-day manhunt that gripped both Utah and the nation.

Law enforcement sources say Robinson was taken into custody around 11 p.m. local time in southern Utah. Robinson briefly attended Utah State University on a scholarship, though he only completed a single semester in 2021 before leaving. Photos from his youth reveal him handling firearms, including a snapshot with a mounted Browning .50 caliber machine gun. In another image from Halloween 2017, he dressed as then-President Donald Trump.

The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was gunned down on Wednesday while speaking at a rally at Utah Valley University in Orem. Family members told investigators that Robinson had become increasingly political in recent months. He reportedly referred to Charlie Kirk as “full of hate” and expressed disdain for his message.

Authorities have stated that Robinson faces capital charges and could face the death penalty if convicted. Utah prosecutors are expected to pursue the case aggressively, given the high-profile nature of the crime and the political violence at its center.
