Tara Reade Alleges Jill and Hunter Biden Acted as “De Facto Presidents”
Tara Reade, the former Senate aide who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault in the 1990s, has filed a $100 million tort claim against the Department of Justice and FBI, alleging retaliation for going public with her allegations. In a recent interview, Reade said she amended her lawsuit to also name Jill Biden and Hunter Biden, claiming they operated as “de facto presidents” during Joe Biden’s mental decline.
Background of Reade’s Allegations
Reade worked as a staff assistant in Biden’s Senate office in 1993. She claims Biden sexually assaulted her and says she filed a written complaint with a congressional office, though no copy has surfaced. Reade alleges that after she spoke up, she was sidelined, stripped of responsibilities, and eventually pushed out.
In 2020, while Biden was running for president, Reade filed a police report with Washington, D.C. authorities. The case was closed due to the statute of limitations. She also sought help from Time’s Up, a nonprofit supporting survivors, but was denied assistance — the group had ties to Biden adviser Anita Dunn.
Retaliation and Relocation
Reade claims she faced intimidation and retaliation after going public. In 2020, her Twitter records were subpoenaed, her bank accounts disrupted, and a FedEx package containing her book manuscript vanished.
By 2023, Reade said the threats were so severe she relocated to Russia, where she was granted asylum. She remains there today, claiming she fears retaliation from the Biden family if she returns to the U.S.
A $100 Million Lawsuit
In 2024, Reade filed a $10 million tort claim against the DOJ, later expanding it to $100 million. She alleges federal agencies — including the FBI — targeted her as part of a campaign to silence critics of the Biden family.
Her lawsuit now includes Jill and Hunter Biden. Reade argues that because they were acting as “de facto presidents” while Joe Biden was in decline, they do not fall under protections typically afforded to elected officials.
“Hunter and Jill Biden were both working as de facto presidents — unauthorized and unelected — and so they do not fall under any kind of protection against a lawsuit,” Reade said. “My lawsuit is the first one to hold this administration accountable for the fact that somebody else was pulling the strings.”
Allegations of a Larger Cabal
Reade claims that Hunter and Jill were not the only ones directing White House affairs, describing a “Democrat elite cabal” that included Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, and Barack Obama.
“This is a dangerous time,” she warned, arguing that her treatment was a microcosm of what many Americans experienced under a weaponized FBI and DOJ.
Call for Whistleblower Hearings
Reade says she would be willing to testify before Congress in whistleblower hearings about corruption and abuse of power within the Biden administration.
“I would be more than willing to testify about Biden’s corruption and about what he did to me and then the way he tried to cover it up,” she said.
Why It Matters
The allegations, lawsuit, and relocation of Tara Reade highlight the intensity of the debate over political power, accountability, and the treatment of whistleblowers in Washington. While her claims remain contested, her case has drawn attention to broader concerns about the independence of federal institutions and the influence of unelected figures in the Biden administration.
