“LETTER TO THE EDITOR”: “A Homeschooler Speaks Out”

Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard about a growing number of parents who are planning to keep their children home from K-12 at the start of the school year due to the newest unscientific, senseless and unreasonable COVID vaccine mandates and restrictions for K-12 as well as schools refusing to eliminate CRT from the curriculum.
I fully support these parents pulling their children from an education system that believes they are the parent of someone else’s children and is no longer educating, but indoctrinating. Being a veteran homeschooler and having experience in what is required to un-enroll your children from public school, I feel the need to sound an alarm! Not to deter what they are doing but to ensure the outcome they desire without legal consequences. Parents need to understand there is only one way to legally withdraw their children from public school, through homeschooling.
All states have truancy laws for children not in attendance at public school. If parents keep their children home for more days than their state allows, usually 3-10 days per year, the children can be considered truant and that can potentially bring legal consequences, jail time for parents leaving younger children as wards of the state and juvenile detention for teens.
It’s hard to believe we have come to this place where thousands of courageous parents across this wonderful country, the land of the Free and home of the Brave, are pulling their children from public school to protect them from an overreaching government that is starting to resemble the tyrannical villain in a movie we once watched as entertainment. Given what we have seen so far, it’s not a stretch to imagine they would use truancy laws to maintain control over their agenda. Please do not underestimate the potential actions of the school system or those currently trampling over the rule of law and government to bring countermeasures through truancy laws.
I urge parents to please take the “legal” route in pulling their children out of public school by filing to homeschool! You can legally do this in all fifty states, it’s a matter of filing paperwork. The best place to start is the Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) website, www.HSLDA.org. They have been in the trenches fighting for parent’s rights to homeschool for decades. They have links for how to homeschool in all fifty states listed by state here, https://hslda.org/legal. Last Tuesday, August 3rd, HSLDA was the featured guest on “Just the Truth with Jenna Ellis” from “Real America’s Voice”. It was a very informative hour and they covered a wide range of topics on homeschooling. In addition to HSLDA, there are hundreds of thousands of homeschoolers, thousands of homeschooling networks, groups and co-ops that have decades of experience across this country, and they would love to share their wealth of information to help parents get started homeschooling, it’s ALL about the kids for homeschoolers!!! If you can’t find a group or network through an online search, get in touch with HSLDA, they are a great help and resource!!!
