Dear Maureen:

Thank you for contacting me about the World Health Organization’s (WHO) pandemic treaty. It’s good to hear from you, as always. 

I share your concerns regarding the most recent draft of the WHO’s proposed treaty. The WHO is a corrupt, overreaching, and ineffective institution. Rest assured, that I will oppose any agreement that expands its authority or influence. 

Soon after the Wuhan Virus outbreak, the WHO demonstrated that it was little better than a puppet of the Chinese Communist Party. It echoed China’s lies, was slow to declare a public health emergency, and helped cover up the origin of the virus. In its biggest test, the WHO utterly failed. 

Now, the WHO is grasping for new and undeserved powers. With its draft treaty, the WHO hopes to dictate U.S. spending on pandemic preparedness, require our government to censor “misinformation or disinformation,” and force our people to embrace “universal health coverage.” The treaty also emphasizes the importance of so-called “equity,” that favorite word of the international left. 

Finally, the WHO treaty would label China a “developing country,” thereby reducing China’s obligations under the treaty and increasing the obligations of other nations, including our own, to assist China during a pandemic. Once again, the WHO is doing the bidding of our greatest enemy. 

If this ill-considered treaty ever reaches the Senate, it will be dead on arrival.
