A 46-year-old Savannah woman is recovering after a violent acid attack near the city’s iconic Forsyth Park, police and local authorities say. The incident occurred on the evening of December 10, 2025, when an unknown assailant allegedly approached the victim from behind and poured a corrosive chemical on her as she walked near West Waldburg Street and Whitaker Street. The woman, identified by family as Ashley Wasielewski, suffered severe second- and third-degree burns to her face, scalp, hands and legs. The corrosive substance was so strong that it reportedly melted her clothing and car key fob. Wasielewski was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to the Augusta Burn Center, where she remains under specialized care, undergoing skin grafts and rehabilitation. Savannah Police Department (SPD) continues to investigate the case, working with federal authorities to determine the type of chemical used and identify the person responsible. Surveillance images released by police show a person of interest wearing a dark hoodie and jeans; however, officials have clarified that this individual is not currently considered a suspect. Friends and family of Wasielewski have described the attack as shocking and senseless. Close friend Karen Oddi told local media the incident felt “surreal” and emphasized Wasielewski’s kind and giving nature, noting that she had no known enemies.
