FBI Releases New Surveillance Images in Search for Missing Nancy Guthrie

Federal authorities on Tuesday released previously unseen surveillance photos and videos showing a masked, potentially armed individual outside the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.

FBI Director Kash Patel posted the newly recovered footage on X (formerly Twitter), saying the material was found in residual backend data after cameras at the residence were tampered with and recording devices were removed.

“Law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” Patel wrote.

What the Footage Shows

The released surveillance depicts:

• A masked person wearing gloves, a backpack and long sleeves approaching the front door.

• The individual seemingly attempting to cover or disable the doorbell camera, and picking up vegetation from the yard to place in front of the lens.

• In some clips, the person appears to carry what looks like a holstered handgun at their waist.

CBS News notes that in one clip, the subject is seen holding a flashlight in their mouth before obscuring the camera lens, suggesting awareness of the camera’s presence.

Investigation Details

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1, after her family realized she had not shown up for virtual church services. She was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31 after having dinner at her daughter’s home in Tucson. Law enforcement quickly treated the case as a criminal investigation, believing she was taken against her will.

Early in the inquiry, investigators found that a doorbell camera at her home had been disconnected in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Although the camera software noted movement minutes later, no active subscription meant the footage was initially unrecoverable.

Patel said the FBI worked closely with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and private sector partners — including Google — to extract the buried data and obtain the video now being shared publicly.

Family Appeals to the Public

Savannah Guthrie shared the FBI images on social media with a plea:

“We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

Her family’s messages have turned increasingly urgent as days pass without contact or confirmed leads. The disappearance has drawn national attention, and authorities have offered a reward for information leading to answers.

No Suspects or Persons of Interest Identified

Despite the new footage, officials have not named any suspects or persons of interest at this stage. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI continue to investigate, canvassing neighborhoods and examining leads.

Federal agents have emphasized the importance of public assistance, urging anyone who recognizes the individual in the footage — or has relevant information — to contact the FBI’s tip line.

Ongoing Search and Public Concern

As of Feb. 10, the search has entered its second week. Law enforcement and family members alike have called on the public for help — from recognizing the figure in the surveillance to submitting tips.

Authorities are also evaluating the credibility of ransom letters that circulated early in the investigation, though it remains unclear if they were genuine.
