Epstein Allegedly Offered Deal to Falsely Implicate Trump, Ex-Cellmate Claims
Deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein allegedly told his former cellmate that federal prosecutors offered him a deal to implicate President Donald Trump in exchange for leniency, according to a sworn statement obtained by The New York Post.
In a July pardon application, former police officer Nicholas Tartaglione—who is serving four life sentences for murder and kidnapping—claimed that prosecutors told Epstein he would “walk free” if he linked Trump to his crimes.
“Epstein told me that [lead prosecutor] Maurene Comey said he didn’t have to prove anything, as long as President Trump’s people couldn’t disprove it,” Tartaglione wrote. “According to Comey, the FBI were ‘her people, not his [President Trump’s].’”
Tartaglione, who shared a cell with Epstein at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center weeks before Epstein’s death in 2019, also said Epstein maintained that “President Trump was not involved in his crimes.”
Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, served as a federal prosecutor in several high-profile cases involving Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Epstein’s death while awaiting trial for sex trafficking minors continues to fuel controversy. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of assisting Epstein in luring teenage girls and is serving a 20-year sentence.
Public interest in the Epstein case resurfaced during the 2024 presidential campaign, as Trump allies accused federal agencies of shielding powerful individuals with ties to Epstein. Trump pledged to declassify Epstein-related government files, but in July, the FBI and Justice Department announced they would not release the documents, citing “no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.”
That decision sparked outrage among Trump supporters and prompted renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s extensive connections.
The Epstein estate later released a collection of personal items—including a 50th birthday message book containing a poem and a purported Trump signature beside a sexually suggestive sketch—intensifying partisan debate. The estate has since disclosed flight logs, schedules, and financial ledgers, which continue to raise questions about the scope of Epstein’s network and the government’s handling of the case.
