Democrats Urge Military to Defy Trump
A group of Democratic lawmakers released a video this week urging members of the U.S. military and intelligence community to defy what they called “illegal” orders from President Donald Trump — and pledging their support to anyone who does.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.), Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) all appeared in the video, each invoking their military or intelligence backgrounds.
“You can refuse illegal orders. You must refuse illegal orders,” they said, warning that the administration was “pitting our uniformed military and intelligence professionals against American citizens.” They framed their message as a reminder of the oath service members take to uphold the Constitution.
Slotkin shared the video on X, writing: “We want to speak directly to members of the Military and the Intelligence Community. The American people need you to stand up for our laws and our Constitution. Don’t give up the ship.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth dismissed the video as “Stage 4 TDS,” though many users urged him to view the warning as serious. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller went further, writing: “Ten years after the Deep State Russia Hoax, top Democrats openly appeal to CIA and military officials to engage in rebellion against their Commander-in-Chief. Do not underestimate how dangerously radicalized the Democrat party has become.”
