Criminal Referral and Intelligence Misconduct

Newly declassified documents show that John Brennan advocated for including the Steele Dossier in the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), despite internal objections from senior CIA officials.
A newly released CIA review found that Brennan “preferred narrative consistency over analytical soundness” and that including the dossier “undermined the credibility” of the ICA.
Yet in 2023, Brennan testified to Congress that the CIA opposed using the dossier and attempted to keep it separate. This contradiction may form the basis of potential false statement charges against him.
Comey’s Role and Mueller Fallout
James Comey also faces scrutiny for his leadership role during the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation and for the decision to include Steele’s allegations in FISA warrant applications targeting Trump aide Carter Page.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, released in 2019, found no evidence of criminal conspiracy between Trump and Russia, undermining years of media coverage and speculation.
Subsequent investigations by John Durham revealed that the FBI had ignored warning signs that Clinton-aligned operatives were attempting to manipulate the bureau into launching the Trump–Russia hoax for political purposes.
White House: Accountability Is Coming
Following the launch of the Brennan and Comey investigations, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Biden administration supports holding former Obama-era officials accountable.
“President Trump was right—again,” she said. “Those who engaged in this political scandal must be held accountable for the fraud they committed against President Trump and the lies they told to the American people.”
