RNC Responded to 28 Bomb Threats During ’25 Election
The Republican National Committee (RNC) reported nearly 500 election-related tips and monitored 28 bomb threats as voters cast ballots last week, highlighting the GOP’s intensified focus on election security ahead of the 2026 midterms.
According to a press release, the RNC’s election integrity teams were fully deployed across New Jersey and Virginia on November 4. The committee invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in those off-year races, recruiting 964 poll workers in New Jersey alone and successfully assigning 463 to polling sites—more than double the number from previous cycles.
“Election integrity is essential, and the RNC is leading the fight to secure the ballot,” said RNC Chair Joe Gruters in a statement to the Daily Caller, which first reported the effort. “In New Jersey and Virginia, our teams resolved hundreds of issues in real time, defended ballot security laws, and made sure every lawful vote was counted. While Democrats try to make it easier to cheat, Republicans are safeguarding confidence in our elections.”
Gruters reiterated the message on X, stating that the RNC’s election integrity team is already “operating at full speed ahead of next year’s midterms,” following what he described as President Donald Trump’s clear directive: protect the ballot.
That commitment faced an immediate test in New Jersey, where Election Day saw a series of emailed bomb threats and security scares. State officials confirmed that polling sites in at least seven counties—Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic—were temporarily evacuated or relocated as police responded.
Local outlets, including NJ.com, reported a heavy police presence at schools and municipal buildings used as polling stations, with voters briefly redirected while K-9 units cleared the areas.
Although Democratic officials dismissed the threats as “not credible,” Republicans argued that even short interruptions can suppress turnout and erode trust in the process. RNC monitors tracked the duration of each closure and coordinated with local election offices to ensure all eligible voters were able to cast ballots.
Beyond the bomb threats, the RNC said its teams logged 478 separate Election Day reports of voting problems—ranging from malfunctioning machines and check-in delays to accessibility concerns. In one notable incident, the committee went to court to block Bergen County from counting more than 300 mail-in ballots missing required inner envelopes, known as “naked ballots.” A judge sided with the RNC, ruling those ballots invalid under state law.
Since being released from a decades-old consent decree in 2018, the Republican Party has steadily rebuilt its capacity to monitor and challenge election irregularities. Following the 2022 midterms, the RNC established a permanent election integrity department—and unlike many political organizations that scaled down after Trump’s 2024 victory, the committee has kept that operation fully staffed.
“What we have at the RNC is a team of true believers in building an election integrity operation,” one party official told the Daily Caller.
