Explanation of Bill H.R. 4263 - Allergen Disclosure in Non-food Articles Act

The purpose of this bill is to make it mandatory for drug labels to clearly identify any ingredients that come from major food allergens (like peanuts or soy) or gluten-containing grains (such as wheat, barley, or rye). This is to help people with food allergies or sensitivities easily see if a drug contains something they need to avoid.

This bill adds a new section to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 352) that requires drug labels to include this information. The new section also specifies when this labeling requirement will go into effect - either on a date determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services or 2 years after the bill is enacted.
