This bill, entitled the Maryland Essential Worker's Protection Act, aims to:
Provide a special enrollment period for health insurance coverage for essential workers during emergencies
Require essential employers to provide hazard pay to essential workers at regular intervals
Have emergency management agencies evaluate and announce emergencies
Ensure essential employers take actions related to occupational safety and health during emergencies
Allow essential workers to refuse responsibilities in unsafe work environments
Prohibit retaliation against essential workers for certain actions
Enforce the act through the Commissioner of Labor and Industry
Set standards, protocols, and procedures for essential employers
Protect essential workers' eligibility for state benefit programs
Prohibit misclassification of essential workers
Require reporting of positive test results to the Maryland Department of Health
Provide bereavement and health leave for essential workers
Require financial assistance for health care costs for essential workers
Prohibit lowering pay for certain reasons
Make this act apply only prospectively and establish it as an emergency measure
