SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 941          WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to   recognize Martin Peña, who is retiring after a long and   distinguished career in education; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Peña began his career in 1960 as a teacher   with the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District; he went on to   hold numerous administrative posts, including principal,   director of federal programs, and assistant superintendent; he   served as superintendent of the Port Isabel Independent School   District in two separate terms for a total of 17 years and of the   Los Fresnos Independent School District for six years; and          WHEREAS, He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree   from Texas A&I University, and he completed the educational   requirements for certification as a superintendent at Pan   American University; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Peña played an important role in the creation   of the South Texas Association of Schools and served as its   executive director for 18 years; he has worked with other   superintendents and legislators over the course of nine sessions   of the Texas Legislature to advocate for children and to promote   good policy for public education; and          WHEREAS, An exemplary administrator, he is respected and   admired by colleagues throughout the region, and it is truly   fitting that he receive special recognition for his many   contributions to education in our state; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th   Legislature, hereby commend Martin Peña on his commitment to   excellence in education and extend to him best wishes for   continued success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for   him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.     Hinojosa, Lucio, Zaffirini                 ________________________________          President of the Senate               I hereby certify that the     above Resolution was adopted by     the Senate on May 28, 2017.                 ________________________________          Secretary of the Senate                 ________________________________           Member, Texas Senate                 ________________________________           Member, Texas Senate                 ________________________________           Member, Texas Senate
