SENATE BILL 1076

 

 

 

AN ACT

 

Requiring the state board of education to conduct a study regarding the graduation of pupils from high school who are delinquent juveniles or incorrigible children.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  State board of education; graduation requirements; delinquent juveniles; incorrigible children; study; report; delayed repeal

A.  The state board of education, in collaboration with universities under the jurisdiction of the Arizona board of regents, community colleges as defined in section 15‑1401, Arizona Revised Statutes, and the juvenile court system, shall examine, research and make recommendations to the legislature regarding the graduation of pupils from high school who are delinquent juveniles or incorrigible children and who have been ordered by a court to one of the following:

1.  A probation department pursuant to section 8-341, subsection A, paragraph 1, subdivision (b), Arizona Revised Statutes.

2.  A private agency or institution pursuant to section 8-341, subsection A, paragraph 1, subdivision (d), Arizona Revised Statutes.

3.  The department of juvenile corrections pursuant to section 8‑341, subsection A, paragraph 1, subdivision (e), Arizona Revised Statutes.

4.  Receive residential treatment services pursuant to section 8‑341.01, Arizona Revised Statutes.

B.  On or before December 15, 2020, the state board of education shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the governor, the speaker of the house of representatives and the president of the senate and shall transmit a copy of this report to the secretary of state.

C.  This section is repealed from and after January 15, 2021.
