H.R. No. 2020 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The untimely death of James Sloan Everett Jr. of Breckenridge on March 6, 2017, at the age of 35, has brought a devastating loss to those who knew and loved him; and WHEREAS, Born in Abilene on September 8, 1981, to Jim and Teresa Everett, Sloan Everett graduated with honors from Breckenridge High School in 2000; he went on to attend Baylor University, where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree magna cum laude, with a double major in finance and entrepreneurship; and WHEREAS, Mr. Everett was hired by ConocoPhillips in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 2005, and his work provided him the opportunity to travel to many countries, including Canada, Costa Rica, Peru, Norway, Russia, and Indonesia; accepting a position with Hunt Oil Company in 2007, he relocated to Dallas, and during his time there, he met his future wife, Liesl Austin; the couple married in July 2011 and moved to Breckenridge the following year; and WHEREAS, Returning to Northwest Texas, Mr. Everett achieved his lifelong dream of working with his father on the family ranch; admired for his strong work ethic and his leadership skills, he quickly proved himself indispensable to the operation of the ranch, and he formed a number of close friendships with those he encountered in the cattle business; and WHEREAS, More than anything else, Mr. Everett centered his life on his family and his faith; he and his wife shared in the joy of raising two children, Scarlett and Samuel, and were anticipating the arrival of a third child at the time of his passing; in recent years, he had become active in the student ministry of the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge, where he helped many young people in their spiritual development; his commitment to excellence in all that he did belied a playful, mischievous side that was well known to his loved ones; and WHEREAS, Though his days were far too few, Sloan Everett lived a life that was rich beyond measure, and he leaves behind a wealth of memories that will be forever cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Sloan Everett Jr. and extend deepest condolences to his relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sloan Everett.
