By: Guillen, Longoria, King of Uvalde H.B. No. 2306         (Senate Sponsor - Zaffirini)          (In the Senate - Received from the House May 8, 2017;   May 9, 2017, read first time and referred to Committee on Criminal   Justice; May 19, 2017, reported favorably by the following vote:     Yeas 7, Nays 0; May 19, 2017, sent to printer.)Click here to see the committee vote    A BILL TO BE ENTITLED   AN ACT     relating to the use of auction proceeds from the sale of certain   abandoned motor vehicles to reimburse law enforcement agencies for   compensation paid to certain property owners.          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:          SECTION 1.  Section 683.015(a), Transportation Code, is   amended to read as follows:          (a)  A law enforcement agency is entitled to reimbursement   from the proceeds of the sale of an abandoned motor vehicle,   aircraft, watercraft, or outboard motor for:                (1)  the cost of the auction;                (2)  towing, preservation, and storage fees resulting   from the taking into custody; [and]                (3)  the cost of notice or publication as required by   Section 683.012; and                (4)  any compensation made by the agency under   Subsection (f) to property owners whose property was damaged as a   result of a pursuit involving the motor vehicle.          SECTION 2.  Section 683.015(a), Transportation Code, as   amended by this Act, applies only to proceeds of a sale of an   abandoned motor vehicle that takes place on or after the effective   date of this Act. Proceeds of a sale of an abandoned motor vehicle   that takes place before the effective date of this Act are governed   by the law in effect on the date of the sale, and the former law is   continued in effect for that purpose.          SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.     * * * * *
