A bill to amend 1994 PA 295, entitled

"Sex offenders registration act,"

(MCL 28.721 to 28.736) by adding section 35a.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 35a. (1) In addition to the other notification requirements under article II, an individual required to be registered under this act shall notify a school district or the principal or other administrative chief of a school if he or she is the parent or legal guardian of a child who will attend school at a public school, public school academy, or nonpublic school.

(2) An individual required to provide the notification under subsection (1) shall provide the notification not later than 14 days after the child begins to attend school.

(3) The notification required under subsection (1) must be in writing and made to the superintendent of a school district, the principal of the school the child will attend, the administrative chief of a public school academy or nonpublic school if the administrative chief is not a principal, or the board of directors of a public school academy.

(4) An individual who violates this section is responsible for a state civil infraction and may be ordered to pay a fine of not more than $500.00.

(5) As used in this section:

(a) "Nonpublic school" means that term as defined in section 5 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.5.

(b) "Public school" means that term as defined in section 5 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.5.

(c) "Public school academy" means that term as defined in section 5 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.5.

(d) "School district" means that term as defined in section 6 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.6.
