SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 946 WHEREAS, Hyman Vego is celebrating his 95th birthday on July 16, 2017, and this occasion provides a welcome opportunity for family and friends to express the love and affection they hold for him; and WHEREAS, Born in New York, Mr. Vego grew up in New Jersey and served his country in the Pacific theater during World War II; he married the love of his life, the former Mariam Goodstein, in Pasadena, California, and they became the parents of four treasured daughters, Victoria, Marjorie, Barbara, and Reva; and WHEREAS, Mr. Vego and his wife partnered with his brother, Irvin Vego, to found the Hylo Table Pad Company, which employed many local residents; deeply committed to civic life, Hyman Vego gave generously of his time and talents as a member of the Jewish War Veterans, the City of Hope Lifesavers Chapter, the David P. Goldman Lodge of B'nai B'rith, the Los Angeles Jewish Federation, and the Anti-Defamation League; he was honored by the league as Man of the Year for 1978; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Vego has been blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; he and his wife shared a rewarding relationship of 57 years before her passing; now a Texas resident, he is the author of two memoirs, Taking the Hy Road and Hy-Lights; and WHEREAS, With the passage of another year, Hyman Vego may reflect with pride on his wide-ranging accomplishments and on the many significant contributions he has made in behalf of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Hyman Vego on the joyous occasion of his 95th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. Vego as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
