MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 10, 2022, as Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Day is a day of mourning for those police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, This is a day to reflect upon the ultimate contributions made each day by police officers who protect our society and well-being; and

WHEREAS, Since 2018, 112 police officers have died in New York State; and

WHEREAS, In commemorating May 10, 2022, as Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Day in New York State, this Legislative Body honors those officers who have given their lives in the satisfaction of their duties and offers comfort to the family members and fellow officers left behind, and recognizes the loyal servitude by all police officers in New York State which permits us to thrive in a safe, free and just society; and

WHEREAS, As an unending emblem of appreciation of the people of New York State, in 1989, this Legislative Body sanctioned the creation of a Police Memorial at the State Capital revering all police officers in New York State who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 10, 2022, as Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Day in New York State, certain that such course of action mirrors our collective dedication to maintain the fundamental nature of freedom which is our American heritage; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New York; to appropriate officers and members of the police community; to the loving survivors of the brave officers who died in New York State since 2018; and those officers who died in prior years.
