S.B. No. 1414 AN ACT relating to the time frame for passing certain licensing examinations for applicants seeking a license to practice medicine. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 155.051(b), Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows: (b) An applicant who is a graduate of a program designed to lead to both a doctor of philosophy degree and a doctor of medicine degree or doctor of osteopathy degree must pass each part of an examination described by Section 155.0511(2), (3), (4), (6), or (7) not later than the earlier of the second anniversary of the date the applicant completed all [the] graduate medical training undertaken by the applicant, including internship, residency, and fellowship, or the 12th anniversary of the date the applicant began the graduate medical training [described by Section 155.003(a)(5)]. SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date of this Act, the Texas Medical Board shall adopt rules necessary to implement Section 155.051, Occupations Code, as amended by this Act. SECTION 3. Section 155.051, Occupations Code, as amended by this Act, applies to an application for a license to practice medicine issued under Chapter 155, Occupations Code, regardless of whether the application is submitted before, on, or after the effective date of this Act. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.
