CONGRATULATING Rome Police Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro upon the occasion of his retirement after 23 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication, command the respect and admiration of their community for their exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Rome Police Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro upon the occasion of his retirement after 23 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement; he will officially retire on Thursday, July 30, 2020, after which he will transition into a part-time security officer with the Rome City School District; and

WHEREAS, Growing up in Utica, New York, Edwin A. D'Alessandro graduated from Notre Dame High School; he went on to earn a degree from SUNY Oneonta in 1997, and completed the Mohawk Valley Police Academy later that same year; and

WHEREAS, Edwin A. D'Alessandro began his illustrious career in law enforcement as a deputy with the Sheriff's Office before making a lateral transfer to the Rome Police Department in July of 2000; and

WHEREAS, In 2006, Edwin A. D'Alessandro was promoted to the rank of investigator when he joined the Child Advocacy Center (CAC), serving as Rome's representative until 2008, and then again from 2015 to 2019; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unwavering commitment to the department, Edwin A. D'Alessandro was then promoted to detective in 2008, and captain in 2019, the esteemed position from which he will retire; and

WHEREAS, Reflecting on his extraordinary career, Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro is most proud of his work as an FBI-trained crisis negotiator, and his perfect record of taking down countless barricaded subjects without a single injury; and

WHEREAS, A third generation law enforcement officer, Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro's father, Enrico, was a captain with the Sheriff's Office and continues to work part-time for the department after his own retirement, and his grandfather, D. Antonio, served with the Utica Parks Police Department until his death in 1956; and

WHEREAS, In his well-deserved retirement, Edwin A. D'Alessandro plans to devote more time to coaching his children in little league in the Town of Lee, and is looking forward to spending more time with his family; and

WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Rome Police Department, earning him the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Alicia, and their two children, who have all shown him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Rome Police Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro upon the occasion of his retirement after 23 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Rome Police Captain Edwin A. D'Alessandro.
