Reps. Markkanen, Paquette, Bellino, Cambensy, Lasinski, Wozniak, Wendzel, Frederick, LaFave and Jones offered the following resolution:
A resolution to declare September 23-27, 2019, as Clean Energy Week in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Clean and readily abundant forms of energy are powering Michigan homes and businesses, and driving economic development and job growth more than ever before; and
Whereas, Clean energy generation from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro, and biomass sources comprise an important part of Michigans present and future energy supply; and
Whereas, Michigan is among the top 15 states in the nation in wind-powered electricity generation, with over 2,000 MW of installed wind capacity, supporting over 2,000 direct wind industry jobs and over two dozen manufacturing facilities in the state producing components for the wind industry; and
Whereas, Michigan is poised over the next decade to see exponential growth in solar energy deployment, with thousands of related jobs created and enhanced tax revenues for local government services and schools; and
Whereas, Michigans aggressive investment in battery technology will pave the way for a transformation in both electricity generation and the transportation sector worldwide; and
Whereas, Michigans entrepreneurs and businesses should be supported through good public policy and government collaboration to assert American energy leadership and ensure low-cost reliable energy at home; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare September 23-27, 2019, as Clean Energy Week in the state of Michigan.
