A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to public transportation.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 51, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "51‑    Mass transit; fares for senior citizens and students.  A county providing a mass transit service pursuant to this chapter shall not collect more than thirty-five dollars for the purchase of an annual mass transit pass from:

     (1)  A senior citizen, defined as any person sixty-five years of age or older; or

     (2)  A youth, defined as any person six through seventeen years of age or any person eighteen or nineteen years of age with a valid high school identification card.

     For purposes of this section, an "annual mass transit pass" means a card, ticket, or similar document distributed as approved by the mass transit service operator that entitles the holder to unlimited rides on the mass transit service for a one-year period."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
