An explanation in layman's terms:

This bill grants a tuition exemption for the children of certain law enforcement officers in the state of Texas. This means that the children of eligible law enforcement officers who have served for at least 15 years can attend college without having to pay tuition, fees, and charges. However, the exemption does not cover general deposits or certain specific fees.

The exemption is available for up to the first 120 undergraduate semester credit hours for which the child registers for courses. The child must also apply for the exemption before turning a certain age and meet all entrance requirements and academic performance standards to maintain the exemption.

If a child transfers from a public junior college to a public senior college or university, they must meet the standard entrance requirements of the senior institution.

This Act will take effect on September 1, 2025.
