By: Morales of Maverick, Troxclair, H.B. No. 1777       Harris Davila, Ordaz, Cunningham, et al.     A BILL TO BE ENTITLED   AN ACT   relating to a designation on a person's driver's license or personal   identification certificate that the person is a registered sex   offender.          BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:          SECTION 1.  Subchapter F, Chapter 521, Transportation Code,   is amended by adding Section 521.1231 to read as follows:          Sec. 521.1231.  SEX OFFENDER DESIGNATION.  (a)  On receipt of   a court order issued under Article 42.016, Code of Criminal   Procedure, the department shall include on each driver's license or   personal identification certificate issued to the person who is the   subject of the court order a designation that shows the person is   subject to the registration requirements of Chapter 62, Code of   Criminal Procedure.          (b)  Subsection (a) does not apply to a court order relating   to an offense for which Section 22.011(e)(2), Penal Code, would   have provided an affirmative defense if the defendant had committed   the offense:                (1)  in this state; and                (2)  on or after September 1, 2025.          SECTION 2.  Section 521.1231, Transportation Code, as added   by this Act, applies only to a driver's license issued or renewed on   or after the effective date of this Act.  A driver's license issued   or renewed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the   law in effect when the license was issued or renewed, and the former   law is continued in effect for that purpose.          SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
